Gender Equality Index 2023

  • The Gender Equality Index for the European Union (EU) has surpassed 70 points for the first time, showing a growth of 1.6 points since 2022. The increase in the overall EU score is the highest year-on-year rise since the first edition of the Index in 2013.
  • Due to a lack of updated EU-wide, high-quality data for the domain of time, the Index was complemented with a survey focused on time spent on unpaid childcare, long-term care, and housework.
  • The data for 2023 Index is mostly from 2021 and 2022. The Gender Equality Index gives the EU and the Member States a score from 1 to 100. A score of 100 would mean that a country had reached full equality between women and men.

The points of view expressed by the authors of videos, academic or non-academic articles, blogs, academic books or essays (“the material”) are those of their author(s); they in no way bind the members of the Global Wo.Men Hub, who, amongst themselves, do not necessarily think the same thing.
