The Women and Innovation 2024 Report is the third edition of the biennial series that began in 2020 promoted by the Women, Science, and Innovation Observatory (OMCI) of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (Spain), with the aim of analysing the situation of women in the field of innovation.
The new study, ‘Women Founders in European Deep Tech Start-ups’ reveals that women founders in the field receive less total funding compared with men founders. According to the study, women
are underrepresented in deep tech start-ups, with less than one quarter (24%) of deep tech start-ups created in 2022 having at least one woman in the founding team. 7,165 start-ups founded since
2010 were analysed as part of the study using the Dealroom database (a global provider of data and intelligence on start-ups and tech ecosystems) across 37 European countries.
This policy brief puts forward policy options to ensure that women and men alike can benefit from AI at work, including: applying a gender lens when monitoring AI’s impact; following an inclusive approach to upskilling and reskilling; bridging gender divides in tech; combatting AI-induced bias; and using AI to combat bias.

Based on the past mentoring programs and experiences, Women STEM-Up project has developed a mentoring program for female undergraduate students as mentees, and university staff and women STEM professionals as mentors. The project partners have now launched a call for mentors: women STEM professionals, scientists, entrepreneurs, and innovators who are interested or involved in supporting women in STEM fields. Whoever is committed and passionate about women staying in STEM fields and look for ways to inspire and support them, this is a great opportunity.
